Cocktail recipe #3: Mad for Margaritas

Cocktail recipe #3: Mad for Margaritas

I LOVE MARGARITAS (both the pizza version and the cocktail version.) I love them all, classic, tommy's, raspberry, strawberry, mango, frozen, on the rocks... did I make my point?

It was one of the first cocktails I ever tried and remember being instantly hooked. The tang of the lemon, the kick of the tequila and then a little bit of sweetness, just SO GOOD. Although not all margaritas I've had have been good. When I was 18, I remember getting two bottles of pre-mixed supermarket own brand margarita as my drink for one of my friends house parties. Needless to say that two litres of the stuff didn't agree well with me and most of it ended up back on her field later that night. Gotta learn the hard way right?

Luckily didn't put me off for very long and began enjoying the tequila-y delight after a couple of years hiatus. So now a very practiced margarita drinker I can now share my own recipe for you. Don't worry though this isn't anything too creative, it's just one of my favourite recipes to make at home and one of the first ones Alec and I made together (cute ya'know.)

This recipe is for a frozen margarita because then I feel like I'm on holiday but you can just not blend it and pour over ice instead for a classic recipe.

Ingredients:

  • Tequila - you can use any but I tend to use Jose Cuervo because it comes with a cute little hat. You can buy here from Master of Malt.
  • Cointreau - buy from the Whisky Exchange here.
  • Fresh lime juice, I'd say one lime per cocktail but up to you how limey you likey.
  • Shloads of ice

How to make:

  1. Dump the ice a blender (if you have one, if not in a glass)
  2. Pour in two parts (or two shots) of tequila, one part (or shot) each of cointreau and lime juice)
  3. Blend for a couple of mins.
  4. If you're feeling fancy then get a plate and pour some salt in it. Then grab the glass you'll use to serve your cocktail and dip the rim of the glass into the salt on the plate. This was you'll get a nice frosted tip.
  5. Pour the blended mix into the glass.
  6. Enjoy!
